research overview
Organizations across the globe have been researching the effects of stereotype-free career education
Research confirms that children as young as 7 are already deeply entrenched in gender stereotypes; the overwhelming majority know only about careers they see in their personal lives, on television, in books, and through the internet.
We've pulled together data from the studies and documents below to create our paper 'Working Towards Equitable Career Education Through Early Intervention', which has influenced much of what we do here at Elementary Careers.
enhancing knowledge
Children need role models. They need to see people in work roles and to be more knowledgeable about the workers in their own communities.
demonstrating value
Very young pupils gain many benefits from career education that introduces them to the world of work and helps them see the relevance of their studies.
drawing the future
For more and more children and young people, online celebrities and YouTube gaming ‘vloggers’ have taken the place of TV and movie stars.
influence & aspiration
There is a need to work to prevent children from narrowing their career choices before having an opportunity to explore the world of work.
